Executive Triathlon

Mike RickettFeatured

Swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, run 26.2 a full triathlon, if that’s to aggressive for you, how about a half, for the mathematically challenged that’s swim 1.2, bike 56, and run 13.1 miles.  Half a nightmare is still a nightmare!  Sounds way to ambitious for me!  That’s why I now stick to the executive triathlon, hot tub, sauna, steam.

You must appreciate the discipline of triathletes, and sometimes question the sanity, but they are big and growing in popularity.  Whether triathloning, Bodybuilding, Crossfitting, or any other intense exercise program, proper amount of recovery determines the level of success.

I know some of you have mastered the nap, beer, and TV event, but what we really need is a way to relieve your tired body as well as mind.  You guessed it, hot tub, sauna, and steam.

The largest organ in your body (get your mind out of the gutter) is your skin.  Guess you could say we’re all skinny!  Skin has the most potential to eliminate toxins!  Accomplished through convection, and evaporation, conduction, your skin is amazing.   With the appropriate protocol, you will be ready for anything.

Time to take notes:

Start with the hot tub (convection), for no longer than 7 minutes.  Why seven minutes?  After seven minutes your body starts needing recovery from the recovery.  Ever been in a hot tub so long that you need to take a nap?  Not a good way to recover.  The raisin look is not trendy!

Next a cold tub!  Yes COLD tub.  If you don’t have one, a dip in a pool or a cold shower will suffice.  Areas to focus on:  neck, carotid arteries; armpits, brachial arteries; and groin, femoral arteries.  Fun times!  How long?  In a cold tub about 40-60 breaths or about ten seconds, just kidding, about 2-3 minutes.  Why do this?  Because I’m crazy, but actually, cold constricts the skin and seals out the toxins you’ve just eliminated.

Next step, the sauna for evaporation.  No more than seven minutes.  Second way to eliminate toxins.

After the sauna, another trip to heaven, or is that hell?  The cold tub!  Same duration.

After you can no longer feel your appendages, its time for the steam room and a little dose of conduction!  The seven-minute or less routine is in affect again.  More detoxification.  Now a change!

Take a cold shower, without soap.  Soap is a toxin, something you want to avoid.

Believe it or not what makes you stink is what you put in your body, not what you put on it, unless you mask it with a chemical concoction of perfume or cologne.  Pheromones rock!

If you really want to make this an extreme workout, add a healthy meal and a nap!

Feel the burn!
